Security system
- Liked the Abode
- Abode has native HomeKit. Simplisafe does not, but appears to have a robust plugin.
- The Abode is expensive and generally reviews worse than the Simplisafe
- Tried to get Abode to match a price on a Simplisafe kit. (They offered this on their site.) Also tried to get them to match the Simplisafe return policy. They refuse on both. Returns policy is 30 days and I pay return shipping unless defective unit. Simplisafe offers 60 day trial with paid return shipping.
- Subscription on Simplisafe is both cheaper (highest Abode tier at 15/month) and more expensive (highest Abode tier 25/month)
Update
- Abode is way more expensive for the equipment no matter how you slice it. Simplisafe cameras are expensive while Abode cameras are cheap, but everything else is more expensive with Abode
- You have to have the top Simplisafe plan to get monitoring
- Abode cameras don’t support HomeKit
- Both of these options are bad. Going to just build my own and forget about monitoring. I can call the cops myself if something bad is happening.

Todo
- Measure windows
- Count and order RJ45 wall panels
- Measure bath tub for bath bench
- 26” x 52”
- Check lights for Lutron dimmer/switch compatibility
- It’s still not clear if these are fully compatible. Lutron says the bulbs failed at least one of their tests, but they don’t say which. Philips says they are compatible. Worth a shot.
- Confirm work in comm closet
- Return items not needed for cabling
- Check if 3.5” wall surge will fit
- 3.75” across but outlets on top. Little over 4” total across inside. Outlets may need to rotate depending on transformer orientation.
- Check height of bulbs
- 143” to highest

Note: since C’s rooftop is on the other side of the building, this is not the view from its deck. This view will not be preserve either since townhomes are about to be built on that side.
