Entry

Today was a more productive work day. I did three 50-minute Pomodoro cycles. Tomorrow I will try to get back to four. I did get some more data onto the single-item report in the foundation’s data dashboard project. I wrote up the process of using a Google Data Studio custom connector as a user who has never used the custom connector before.

We took time out to give Tiffany her card and her concert ticket first thing this morning after Ambria woke up. She liked the card and the ticket but she already knew about the concert since she watches the budget. We probably need to put a moratorium on her budget watching around gift time so that she can be surprised.

I had given Ambria 30 minutes of Discord every day to talk to her boyfriend Jacob with the idea she would use it in a single shot after her morning work. I had offered her another 30 minutes if she took on some other enrichment activities. She had never done that because she was trickling her 30 minutes out over the entire day a few seconds at a time instead of doing it in a single block as intended. She is able to do this because the per-app limitations do not allow you to set a timeframe for the limitation. It’s a time limit, but the user can use it however they wish.

I took the time limit down to 1 minute so that she will have to request time. The requests last for 15 minutes of real time (not 15 minutes of focused app time on the screen like the app limits). This will allow me to enforce the original intended limitation and maybe incentivize the enrichment.

Ambria got really mad and cried about it for a long time even though this was what we had originally discussed. She had abused the limitations of the enforcement mechanism and felt entitled to continue doing so. She eventually came out of it while we watched an episode of Rick and Marty during our dinner.
