Ali Abdaal shares some good tips on how to keep from being distracted
Chart progress like a game does
- Obsidian coupled with the Tasks plugin does this by allowing me to show a list of completed tasks on each day’s daily note. It’s kinda like an achievement list on a game console.
- Set milestones. Maybe I could set rewards at the milestones that would act as “level up” perks?
Turn off the phone and put it on airplane mode during work times
- Love this. Putting it in airplane mode is more aggressive that I’ve been willing to go, but it ensures you won’t be distracted. Starting DND on the laptop would probably be good enough there.
Control your environment
- Keep a clean workspace to give yourself fewer things to get distracted by
Deliberately manage your time
- If you don’t have an action scheduled, you feel like you can’t get distracted, so you allow distractions
- Time block the things you want to do
