Description

I was inspired by the Why You’re Always Distracted (and how not to be) video to build a set of rewards around working on my 30x500 course project. I wanted to set milestones and buy myself a game upon completion of each milestone.

In the shower, I thought about building an app that would automate this.

How it Might Work

  • to-do app but with sets of todos
  • enter your project’s tasks, divided into sets representing milestones
  • user makes a “wish list” of items they want
    • could attach each item to a milestone or have them randomized
  • when a set is completed, the app automatically purchases the item and sends it to the user

Monetization

  • Keep the user’s credit card on file. When a set is completed, purchase the item and send it to the user, charging a small fee on top (10% or $5 minimum?)
  • Charge the user monthly to use the app. Everything else could be the same as the above scheme.
  • Due dates: have the user set due dates on milestones. Charge the user for their reward for the first due date. If the user has not completed the item by that date, the money is lost (hybrid of existing app that charge you if you break a streak or the like)
