For months now, Ambria has been saying she doesn’t want to live in our home anymore and that she wants to have full control over her life. Yesterday, she told me she was staying at school for tutoring. She said she would be home at 5:15. I texted her at 5:30 after not hearing from her and again at 5:45. I started calling after that and got no answer. I walked to her school following her phone’s location and found her backpack with her phone in it stashed in the bushes next to the entrance to her school.

They were having an event inside the school, so I found one of the teachers organizing the event and asked for help. I asked if he could help me find the classroom belonging to the person Ambria was supposed to be getting help from. He didn’t know where the classroom was but pointed me in what he thought would be the right direction, so I spent a few minutes wandering around the school looking for it on my own. (Turns out, the person doesn’t have a room of their own.)

I left the school and started calling Ambria’s friends. One of the friends who didn’t answer was apparently at the school (where Ambria had also been), ran into her there, and convinced Ambria to call me from the friend’s phone. Ambria called me as I was walking back home from looking for her, preparing to report her missing to the police.

We walked home relatively calmly as she continued to tell me how she “couldn’t go back there” and things escalated from there. This culminated in my discovering Ambria’s vape pen and her various vape liquids (no clue what any of this stuff is actually called) and confiscating them from her. At this point, she said that was all she could take and she wanted to end her life. I got on the phone with the suicide prevention hotline. I was on hold with them as they were attempting to contact the police.

While I was on hold, Ambria said she was going to the roof to jump off. I asked if that’s really what she intended to do. She said it was and started moving toward the stairs. I restrained her, hung up on the suicide hotline, and called 911. The cops came a couple of minutes later and took over. They called an ambulance. I rode with her to Children’s Hospital where she spent the next ~6 hours being evaluated and ultimately released to go home. We called a car and went back home, arriving at about 5am.

Ambria talked to Emily on 2022-06-15 and shared part of that story (just the part about her threatening suicide, being evaluated overnight at the hospital overnight, and missing school today). No clue what the fallout from that will be, but I wanted to give you a heads up. Please let me know if you hear anything. My only hope is that she’s out of money and just isn’t able to inject any additional chaos into our lives right now.
