Our EdgeDB 3.0 release is just around the corner. Unfortunately, that release will not include full-text search. Our goal is to make FTS state of the art, and, while we’ve made significant progress, we have unfortunately run out of time to be 100% sure that it is up to our high standards.
But we don’t want this delay to hold back the release of EdgeDB 3.0, which includes many other exciting features that are ready for you to start using right now. We don’t want to make you wait any longer to start taking advantage of triggers, mutation rewrites, and splats (among others). That’s why we’ve decided to delay only the FTS feature rather than delaying the entire 3.0 release.
We’re working hard to get FTS ready for release as soon as possible. We’re confident that you’ll find what is launching with 3.0 to be just as exciting and valuable as we do. We appreciate your patience as we work to bring you the best database experience available in EdgeDB 3.0 and beyond!

We have many requirements for this new API (see https://github.com/edgedb/rfcs/blob/master/text/1015-full-text-search.rst), and, while we’ve made significant progress, we have unfortunately run out of time to be 100% sure that it is ready for prime time.
We don’t want this delay to hold back the release of EdgeDB 3.0, which includes many other exciting features that are ready for you to start using right now. That’s why we’ve decided to delay only the FTS feature rather than delaying the entire 3.0 release.
That said we’re working hard to get FTS ready as soon as possible. We’re considering multiple options on how we can ship it sooner, including significantly shortening our release schedule for major versions.

- Sully: expect feature in a point release (Elvis: as experimental)
- Yury: release in 4.0 in 3-4 months or as experimental in 3.0?
- Sully: will need to push back 3.0 beta a month to fit FTS in
