For Long Videos

  1. Open in Recut
  2. Use default settings for silence removal
  3. Export the timeline in Final Cut Pro format with silences removed
  4. Save to the video’s directory

In Final Cut Pro X

If you removed silences in Recut, you can import that XML via File > Import, rename the resulting event and project, and skip to step 3.

  1. Create a new event
  2. Name the event’s project
  3. Double-click the event’s project to open it
  4. Import any videos for the project into the event
  • If a video features the Nanoleaf LED panels in the background, de-flicker them.
  1. Watch through the video removing silences or, for clips in which silence was automatically removed, extend any cuts needed to properly show action on screen or allow for appropriate pauses between ideas. See Keyboard Shortcuts for faster editing.
  2. Add any effects, titles, sound effects, transitions, etc.
  3. Click the “Export” button in the top right
  4. Choose “YouTube & Facebook” from the dropdown
  5. Switch to the “Settings” tab
  6. Set “Resolution” to “4K” and “Compression” to “Better quality”
  7. Click “Next”
  8. Select your destination and click “Save”

De-Flickering Nanoleaf LED Panels

You can de-flicker the LED panels somewhat by duplicating the clip and overlaying it on top of the original using this process.

  1. Drag video onto timeline
  2. Select the video (should be surrounded with a yellow box)
  3. Cmd-C to copy
  4. Move the scrubber to the beginning of the clip
  5. Move the scrubber one frame forward by pressing the right arrow key
  6. Option-V to paste to another track
  7. Go to the end of the main clip
  8. Delete from the duplicate clip the frame that extends past the main clip (using Option-])
  9. Detach audio from the secondary clip
  10. Delete detached audio
  11. Select the duplicate clip
  12. Open video inspector (click film icon in right sidebar’s toolbar)
  13. Change “Blend Mode” to “Lighten”
  14. Change “Opacity” to 50%
  15. Open the Effects Browser (Cmd-5)
  16. Add a shape mask to the duplicate clip
  17. Position and size the shape mask around the light
  18. Select both clips, right click, and click “New Compound Clip”
  19. Name the clip and click OK

Repeat for any other videos that feature the light panels.
