I enjoy mechanical keyboards, and I think I’d really enjoy building my own. I’d love to build them, but I can’t justify it for myself. It would be really cool to sell them. It doesn’t hurt that the people who use them for work sometimes make good money, so they can afford to splurge on a keyboard. They may not have the time or inclination to build it themselves though.
This pop-up or storefront would sell custom-made computer keyboards with mechanical key switches.
Brand
Some new thoughts came up on this recently as I was thinking about how I might leave my job. This doesn’t need to be a shop. It could just be a brand.
Differentiation
Many people build custom keyboards, so it will be important to differentiate.
- Capture the process of learning how to build custom mechanical keyboards
- “Sign” every keyboard, by adding a badge or something similar
- Signature styles and color palettes?
- ergo focus?
Marketing
- Send to influencers, like Marius
- Stream builds
- Intro video smashing my Razer keyboard and building my first keyboard for myself
- Sell to career developers because they will spend money on their tools

- Sell practice builds used for videos capturing the process of learning.
