This is a PC Roguelike Deckbuilder. You wander around from a Diablo-sequence isometric viewpoint until you encounter an enemy, when the game switches to a card battle system.

How to Play

Isometric Exploration

From the isometric perspective, you are recruiting people to tend shops in a town that acts as a base. You occasionally find and talk to other people. The voice acting is really good and reinforces the somber and lonely tone of the setting.

You leave town entering the “Wyrdness” (pronounced like “weirdness”) where you need to burn special candles to avoid having “Wyrdcards” inserted into your deck during battles. You have a “burn level” that controls how profound the effect of the “Wyrdness.” It is indicated by a ring around the flame icon in the bottom left of the screen when traversing or the top left of the screen when battling. When the burn level is high, the game tells you “wyrdness is completely repelled,” but I still received wyrdcards. The wyrdcards don’t seem to be debuffs but do have some effect if they are not played in the turn they are drawn.

Battles

During battle, you have a number of energy points per turn. The actions are broadly divided into defensive actions, like blocking, stunning, and buffing yourself, and offensive attacks. Each card has an energy cost in the top-left corner of the card.

Cards are played by clicking on them. Some attacks will automatically target an enemy while others are targeted. Targeted cards may either be dragged onto the target or clicked once to activate targeting mode which allows the player to then click the target.

The enemy’s intent is shown above it. You can hover over the enemy to see what action it will take this turn.

Blocks block a number of attacks rather than an amount of damage. Stuns cancel the enemy’s action for that turn.

As you fight, you charge an ultimate ability which does more damage.

Progression

Leveling up allows the player to add a card to the deck and a passive skill. The cards are more powerful and interesting than those in your starting deck, and the skills provide boons like an additional 25 armor, a more powerful first hit, and more ultimate charges.

The blacksmit can slot runestones into your weapons to give you additional passive benefits like additional damage or armor.

Notes

  • It has one of my favorite things: characters singing in-game.
