Character
Health and Shield
Your shield is represented by the blue meter and recharges automatically after a short time. Your health begins to deplete when you take damage with your shield exhausted and can only be recharged with pork buns.
Talents
Talents are a meta-progression layer that allows you to permanently improve your hero. They are organized into multiple talent trees per hero. Each talent you purchase increases your talent level by one. As you increase your talent level, you gain access to new tiers of talents for purchase.
Hero Selection
You unlock heroes as you gain talent levels. Your hero selection determines your secondary skill and the style of grenade you have.
Weapons
You start the game with a single weapon called Foundry that is barebones, has a low rate of fire, and has infinite ammo. As you progress, you will collect other weapons with different attributes and special abilities. You can hold three weapons at a time. You must keep Foundry at all times, and it will occupy your first weapon slot.
Weapons can also deal elemental damage which creates a rock-paper-scissor mechanic with the various types of defense used by enemies.
Ammo
Each weapon uses one of three ammo types: normal, large, and special. Ideally, each of the two weapons you choose beyond Foundry would use a different weapon type so that, if one weapon’ s ammo is out, you can switch to the other without having to fall back on Foundry.
Weapon Skills
Some weapons have additional skills bound on the right mouse button.
Examples
- sniper rifles have the zoom skill
- one of the lightning elemental guns has a skill that fires a lightning bubble which powers up any shots passing through it
Inscriptions
Each inscription on the weapon makes it unique from others of the same type. They may boost a particular kind of damage, change the elemental effect of the weapon, or offer powerful unique attributes on the weapon.
Pickups
Health
Health pickups are in the form of pork buns.
Copper
Copper is the currency used to buy from the game’s vendors.
Essence
Essence pickups look like copper but are blue. They are used to buy talents.
Scrolls
Scrolls generally change the rules of the game in some way. For instance, one scroll makes your critical hits do double damage while reducing the damage of regular hits by 50%.
Goblets
Each level in an area ends with a chest with contains a goblet. Each goblet allow you to choose one of three perks that will improve your grenades, your special skill, or your elemental attacks. These perks can be picked up to three times for progressively better passive improvements.
Environment
Barrels
The environment contains exploding barrels of different elemental varieties. They explode immediately when you shoot them. Make sure you are clear of the blast radius when you shoot. Ideally, your enemies will be wishing the blast radius when you shoot them.
Pots, Non-Exploding Barrels, and Other Containers
The environment is littered with containers you can shoot to find ammo, pork buns, and copper.
The Vault
Some levels will have an entrance to The Vault you can access by shooting a purple gash in the wall. These act as challenge rooms that reward you with Exotic Scrolls which grant passive effects.
Vendors
Craftsman
The Craftsman will upgrade your weapons up to two times each time you encounter him. Weapon upgrade level is indicated by a ”+ N” in the weapon’s name. The cost to upgrade scales up as you upgrade to higher levels. Upgrades increase the weapon’s damage.
The Craftsman can also change weapon inscriptions. This is limited, although I’m not clear how.
Peddler
The Peddler offers several items for sale. He offers a pork bun, an ammo refill, and a grenade refill along with three weapons. Sometimes he also has a scroll for sale. You may only buy one of any item for sale.
