My name is Morgan, and i feel your mentoring session could be quite suitable to my situation. I am coming from a job in industrial automation. Although this involved some programming, it was mostly installing and repairing automation equipment and communications systems. I did do some programming, but it was all in proprietary languages. I am a ticketed Instrument Tech, which means i did 4, 2 month schooling sessions at a trade school. This did involve 2 classes in programming industrial computers, and CS fundamentals.
For the past year, I have been coding in more traditional languages, mainly Ruby, but also some C# and JavaScript. My projects have primarily focused on game development, since this was what sparked my interest in coding. At this point, i feel comfortable facing most programming challenges assuming there is no encroaching deadline, but have no experience working on enterprise level software, or working in conjunction with other programmers.
I currently live in a small town, but i have quit my job and am moving to the city soon. My plan is to go to university for a CS degree in the coming year. I have heard this may not be a required step, depending on the path i choose, and I would love to talk to you about that.
Thanks for reading Devon. whether or not we get a chance to talk, i wish you all the best.
