Yo Devon!
I wanna start by saying this is an incredible thing of you to do, and thank you so much in advance. In the interest of keeping it short:
I am currently a dishwasher at a retirement community. I, like you were, am desperate to get out of entry level position hell. I can barely support myself and just want a stable existence. I didn’t want to go to college since it seems a waste these days, you spend unfathomable amounts for a degree that won’t make up for the cost, and an education that is out of date with what is being used to really solve problems nowadays. I attended a coding bootcamp, learned full stack web dev (MEAN) and have since been active in my local tech community volunteering for experience and connections. Each opportunity that comes falls through, and I’m finding myself very impatient with my state of living and how it affects my mental health. I came across your podcast with CodeNewbie and thought perhaps I should try freelance. To be a little more clear about what I want to accomplish, I don’t quite know what that is in the long term. But for now I just want to get on my feet and become fully self sufficient. I hope that works for ya. I feel I should also mention my strongest language is JavaScript. I like to think I have a good handle on it.
That’s about as concise as I can put where I am now and what I want. If there’s anything I could do for you in return for your advice, let me know.
Michael
Talked to him about BNI and networking with business owners. He’s reticent to do this.
