It sounds to me like your biggest problem is consistency. This may sound like “woo” (and I would have thought it was too before it worked for me), but keeping your goal top of mind could be helpful to keep you motivated and maybe stop those long gaps between practice. In case you haven’t seen it, my latest video has some tips for keeping the goals top-of-mind.

I’d also look at trying to “lock in” your coding practice as a regular habit. I read this book called The Power of Habit that was helpful in learning how to make habits stick. It was a pretty good book, but the gist of the method is to fill in the blanks in this sentence: “After __, I will _.” The first blank is the trigger for your new habit. Every time that thing happens, it will trigger the habit. The next blank is the habit. An example would be
