Heard your interview on the Code Newbie podcast and appreciate all the help you offer!

I know you’re busy so I’ll get straight into it:

Where I am

-I’m a Product Manager at a Fintech Company managing a team of 2 devs and 1 qa.

-Have been a PM for 1 yr, prior to that QA for 1yr

-My background is more business oriented with an MBA and Consumer Prod Management experience

Where I want to go

-I have always wanted to be more technical, but was often slated for more business oriented paths because of my background.

-Current goal is to migrate to the dev side of my company as I feel that this will help me progress much faster (company stack: js,react,c#,SQL Server, MongoDB)

-Freelancing is always an option

What I am doing now

-Started taking the learning to code a bit more seriously since July (after visiting a Developer friend in Boulder CO)

-60% of the way through Udemy course Full Stack Web Dev by Colt Steele (html,css,js,node.js)

-Paused that to join Chingu Cohort to collaborate and work on project with other Devs at same skill level as me (Currently in 4th of 6 week cycle)

-Once this cohort finishes, will continue coursework and try to build up github with projects as I learn.

Hope that gives a good picture. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I think the scariest/hardest part is wondering if I can self teach myself to a point where I can be a developer. Taking the time/money to do a bootcamp is not ideal. My thought is that a big benefit of the bootcamp is to get your foot into the door at a technical company. With me currently working at a technical company, I can leverage that network and resources in house to make a successful pivot.

Session Notes

Roadmap

  1. Keep learning CSS and Javascript
  2. Work on your time tracking app layering in new things you learn
  3. Take on your freelance projects. Eye toward results.
