I’m in Australian AEST time zone does that work?
I have a little baby at home and my goal is not to go back
To work in an office. I need to earn about 30k a year on top of my husband
Income to break even as a family.
They still need work but I just published my two websites. I need to finish content
And social channels. And then I plan to start blogging.
alphaomegadigital.com.au (dev site)
Jane-James.com.au (marketing site.)
I started learning web dev two years ago when I had my first baby
And I just started css HTML at code academy.
Then I have done courses in many other places.
I have never had a paid client! So what do I put in my folio?
I read another blog article saying to offer businesses
A discount to be a folio client. Is this a good idea?
Or just put study projects I have done.
I don’t have design skills so I was thinking next to learn figma.
I have used sketch before but not much.
I really want to get some paid clients even if it’s using a child theme of WordPress theme
which as you’ll see from source code is my marketing site.
Would love to hear back from you.
Hi Devon- I have loved your last two blog posts.
I am so looking forward to speaking to you on the 30/9.
I do wish to redo my own website- every time I want to make a change
I am getting webpack config errors, GitHub casing errors etc.
It took a month to get it deployed to netlify.
So I’m going to redo it and deploy a new site.
I actually just discovered webflow and I think it will significantly cut down my
Dev time as it kind of cuts out the design/mock process out.
Also did I mention I have a four month old baby and am sleep deprived!?
I was wondering if I should reschedule to another few weeks later so I can show you my new site a
Mock project and we can discuss getting my first paid client!
What are your thoughts please Devon?
I don’t want to miss the offer so if it doesn’t work for you to
Push back a couple weeks we can stick to Monday.
Hi Devon- ive recruited an expert to help with the sleep and we are seeing improvements already!
It’s just my schedule is a bit all over the place. Cool how much is your ongoing mentor fees? I would be totally up for that with the right person.
I have done some paid coaching before with Nathan Ingram, but he told me to make websites using be beaver builder and I HATE it. Webflow is the first page layout product I have used that is actually decent and doesn’t have heaps of code bloat.
So I would love a coach that can help me get clients as long as our ideals gelled.
My goal is to earn 30k in a year. That means I have enough as a secondary income to pay our bills etc and don’t have to return to an office job. do you think that’s achievable for a first year?
Can we reschedule for a few weeks time and chat then?
Hi Devon,
Yep I’m fine with $150 a month. That’s the same price Nathan Ingram charges.
Webflow is good but it’s not perfect by any means. They market to UX designers who cannot code but if you didn’t know how to code you would struggle to make changes once you export the code.
Eg. You change the margins and padding to export to mobile devices but you really have to do all new media queries once you export the code.
The in built CMS is easy to use but once you setup a collection you cannot delete it. I had to start the project all over again!
Another thing I’m finding is- based on what animations and functions you select the programming language changes. A sample project I’m working on- says in wappalyzer it’s Lua and ruby. I haven’t used those before so I’m sure it’s a bit of a learning curve..
There’s also a webflow to Wordpress plugin called udesly that also.. works in theory but not IRL. So I have to convert to php manually.
Is this the kind of stuff I should be blogging about?
I see your blogs are aimed at freelancers because you are targeting us for coaching. But I think my blog posts should be like “15 things small business can do to improve their organic seo.” Etc. As I’m targeting small business owners who are looking for help and will end up paying me to do it when they realise they don’t have time.
I suppose the main thing I wanted to ask was- should I do the first few sites contra/ pro bono to get myself going?
I was going to offer my accountant a free site if he can do my book keeping for free.. sounds fair.. also he has a lot of business contacts I think he’d be a good referral person.
I have rescheduled to a month from
Now. I am really looking forward to talking with you.
