Hi Devon,

Hope you are doing great!!

I just read your article in medium and it really inspired me.

I am from Kerala( in India) , I work as Software engineer and its been 6 years in this field. During my first job I was doing small programming stuffs. And I have changed company 2 times to get good work which I can learn and grow, but I feel stuck here and am not learning more.

I am looking to learn more and get good job. when I attended few interviews, they where expecting more from a person who is working in software company for 6 years and so got rejected.

I also thinking about how to create a side project through which I can earn some money.

Regards,

Asfab

Advised Asfab to find a project that speaks to him. Advised him to carry a notebook and write down problems he has. Any of those can become a project idea. Promised to send him my list of project ideas. He asked if he should chase technologies. I said that he shouldn’t and started talking about the approach for freelancing vs. full-time. He says he wants to stick with full-time. I advised him to focus and find a tightly-scoped project he can build. He’s found project ideas before and lost interest before completing them. I told him tighter scope and project that solves his own problems might help. He asked about whether he should leave his job to join a startup because he likes the stack better. Startup has been around for about 3 years. Pay would be similar. I asked what would happen if the startup closed. Sounds like it would be bad for him. I advised him to stay where he is, work on personal projects, and keep looking for other positions. Told him ultimately it was a personal decision and he needs to weigh desire to work with stack vs. consequences of working at a position with less stability.
