singular

  • eu- I

  • ele (ell; almost “ill”)- he

plural

  • nós (noe-sh)- we
  • vocês (vo-seish)- you all
  • eles (ellsh; almost “illsh”)- masculine/neutral
  • elas (ellash)- feminine

Verbs- verbum (verb)

Present tense, indicative

  • subjunctive- may or may not happen
    • I wish I could fly
    • I want you to to learn Portuguese
  • indicative- actual, concrete happening
    • most
  • falar- to speak or talk
    • eu falo (e-oo fah-loo)- I speak
    • tu falas- You speak
    • ele/ela fala
    • você fala- you speak 2nd person uses third person conjugation
    • nós falamos (nosh fala-moosh)- we speak
    • vocês falam (voh-seish falau, nasalated)-
    • eles/elas falam
  • chegar- to arrive
    • eu chego- I arrive
    • tu chegas- you arrive
    • ele/ela chega
    • nos chegamos- we arrive
    • vocês chegam-
    • eles/elas chegam
  • regular verbs
    • all end in r
    • three types ending in “ar”, “er” (occasionally “or”), or “ir”
  • remove “s” going to third person for all

Examples

  • O Joao fala com a Maria- The Joao speaks with the Maria
  • Nos falamos de futebol (noesh falah-moosh duh foot-uh-boll) - We speak about football
  • Vocês falam muito (vo-seish falaou nu-een-to)
