  • tempo (tem-poo)- time or weather
  • Está quente! (shta kent)- It’s warm
  • calor (kah-loor)- hot
  • Está calor! (shta kah-loor)- It’s hot
  • Está muito calor em Portugal. (shta mueen-toe kah-loor eim poor-too-gahl)- It’s very hot in Portugal
  • Liquid is quente, weather is calor
  • esta frio (shta free-oh)- It’s cold
  • Está nublado (shta noo-blah-doo)- it’s cloudy
  • nuvem- cloud
  • Está a chover (shta a sho-ved)- It’s raining
  • chuva (shu-vah)- rain
  • Está a nevar- it’s snowing
  • neve (nev)- snow
  • adding ‘r’ makes a verb- ‘er’, ‘ir’, ‘ar
  • Present continuous tense formed by ‘a’
    • nevar - to snow

  • Como está o tempo?- How is the weather?
    • Como está o tempo em Portugal?- How is the weather in Portugal?
  • O tempo está mau- The weather is bad
    • mal- means more “in a bad way”
    • mau- means “bad”
    • sometimes interchangeable
  • Está sol! - It’s sunny!
    • They have the word “sunny” but it’s not used much
  • Estão 30 graus (gdaush)- It’s 30 degrees
    • “estão” is plural for “estãr” because more than 1 degree
    • estã un grau
  • Qual é a temperatura?- What is the temperature?
  • Estão 5 graus negativos. (ney-gah-tee-vohs)- It’s 5 degrees negative
  • Estão menos 5 graus (shtou mey-noosh gdaush- It’s minus 5 degrees
  • Estás a fazer o quê? (shtaz ah fah-zed oo quey; more nosey, informal) or O que estás a fazer? (oo kuh shtaz ah fah-zed; more casual)
  • Quanto- how much (uncountable; time, money, water)
  • Quantos- how many (countable; years, houses, )
  • anos- pronounced ah-noosh
  • ânus- anus, pronounced same as anos (ah-noosh)
  • Onde é a tua casa? (on-duh eh ah too-ah kah-zah)- Where is your house? (informal)
  • Onde é a sua casa? (on-duh eh ah soo-ah kah-zah)- Where is your house? (formal)
  • Whose car is that?- De quem é esse carro? (dey key (nasal) eh ess-eh (guttural r in carro))
  • this - este (esht)

  • This is great!- Isto é ótimo!
  • por-kuh- first of sentence

  • os três tigres tristes- the three sad tigers
