When Emily answered, the Skype app crashed on the phone. Ambria called her back.
Emily asked what she’s been doing. She just had a phone interview with the YMCA. Emily asked what it’s for. Customer service. Emily asked if people would call and ask questions. Yes, and she said they work at the front desk. Emily guessed they sign people in at the front desk. Emily asked about the hair salon. They’re moving forward with other people. Emily said they shouldn’t have asked her to shadow. Ambria agreed. Emily said she’d “gotten lots of those.”
Emily asked if Ambria knows Taylor Swift has a new album out. No. It’s called Midnights. At 3am, she released 7 bonus tracks. Emily said the album is based on 13 nights she couldn’t sleep and wrote songs instead. Emily said she doesn’t have a favorite after first listen.
Ambria told her her birthday is in two days. Emily said it’s her birthday eve eve. Emily asked what they’re going to do. Friday, she and some of her friends are going to the arcade. Emily asked where they are going to eat. They don’t know yet. Emily asked how many people are going. Ambria counted them. 5 yes and 5 maybe. Emily said it would be “a good sized crowd.”
Emily asked what she’s doing at the house. Ambria told her we’re getting pizza and “some kind of cake.” Emily said to call her if she wants to on her birthday. Emily said she’d understand if she’s busy. Ambria said she’ll try to text her.
Ambria said she never told her she never told what she wants for her birthday. Ambria suggested she could come for a weekend that she isn’t busy. Ambria is going to check her next days off. She thinks she’ll be free any weekend. Emily asked if she finished her “online stuff” (probably meaning her IOP). Ambria told her the next days off are Thanksgiving. Ambria suggested she could fly in Friday afternoon or evening and leave Sunday evening if she can make that work. Emily asked if she can do that any weekend. Ambria said she could. Ambria told her there aren’t a lot of hotels in West Seattle, but there are AirBNBs. Ambria said she could stay with her, or she could just pick her up. Emily said either of those would work. Emily will look into it.
Emily said she looks very old. Ambria laughed. Emily asked if she’s gotten any gifts yet. She saw some wrapped presents but didn’t open them yet. Emily asked if she shook them. No. Emily said she doesn’t like to know either.
Emily asked if she’s having chai. Yes. Emily has a recipe to replicate the Starbucks chai latte. She’s going to try it. She asked if Ambria would like to try it. Yes.
Emily asked if her friends are doing anything at school for her on Friday. Summer has a present that should arrive in time. Emily asked what she’s going to wear. Ambria is going to find a favorite outfit.
Emily asked if it will be cold on Friday. Yes. Emily asked if they’re driving or taking the bus. Ambria said they would probably drive together.
Emily asked if she knows when she was born. 11 something. Emily told her it was 11:36.
Emily said Reda had a good birthday. Hugh got ingredients to make burgers and a bunch of people came over. Emily told them all that she loves them. They reciprocated. Ambria was trying to get Reda a card but couldn’t. Emily just got hers sent late. Emily had trouble with their mail.
Ambria has started getting some cards in the mail. Emily likes to get mail.
Ambria said she wants to call Reda on Friday and will try to call or text her (Emily). Emily said she is excited and living vicariously. She can’t remember what she did for hers.
Emily asked if she had to stop her IOP because she was almost 18. No, she finished. Emily asked if her ADHD is any better. Ambria thinks it’s more manageable but still noticeable. Emily guessed it always will be but thinks the course may have helped.
Ambria asked her to tell Reda hi and she loves her. Emily said she will. Ambria said she should go. Emily said she hopes she has a happy birthday. She said she used to get teary when people sang Happy Birthday to her. Ambria asked her to think about coming to visit. Emily wished her Happy Birthday again.
