This was another call Ambria arranged with Reda while Emily was visiting her. They went back and forth a few times earlier in the day before settling on 6pm.
Ambria called the first time and the call did not ring on Skype as if Emily was offline. They answered on the second attempt.
Emily said they are having dinner. Reda got a cheeseburger and fries from Cookout. [They] got banana pudding shakes. Emily got an impossible burger from a place called something like Monster Burger. Ambria said she just finished her dinner. Emily asked what she had. Chicken pot pie and some Nutella ice cream. Emily asked if she liked that. Yes. Ambria also had Pocky. Emily asked if Ambria has tried a few different Pocky flavors. Ambria doesn’t think so. Emily recommended trying the banana flavor. Reda was asking from the background what they were talking about so Emily explained Pocky.
Emily asked what else she has been doing today. Ambria played some Sims. Emily asked if she played the vanilla game or cats and dogs. Ambria told her the expansion is baked in. Ambria gave her a progress update on her 100 baby challenge. Ambria is at 5 babies.
Emily told Ambria to look at Reda’s earrings. Ambria could only see Emily’s hand. Emily tried again to get them in frame. Emily told her they are pink “glittery” hearts. They put her earrings back in. The left side was easy, but the right was grown up. They got her right ear re-pierced at Claire’s. Reda said it didn’t hurt that much. She said there was a loud noise. Emily asked if Reda knew Ambria has hers pierced. They talked about the jewelry Ambria is wearing in her ears. They’re the ones she got when she got them pierced. Reda mentioned the “big ole hoops” she used to wear. Reda told a story about something funny that happened between them regarding earrings. It was an accident that led to Ambria’s earrings being broken, but Ambria thought it was purposeful.
Ambria asked what they’ve done today. Emily said they went to TJ Maxx and Dollar Tree. She said they went down every aisle.
Ambria told her we tried to go to the museum but it was closed. She said we’re going to try again tomorrow. Ambria told her we walked around the university and got food. She said it was fun. Emily asked what we got. Ambria described the Mediterranean food we had for lunch and the Dough Zone we got for dinner. Ambria told her about the banana naan bread dessert we got and said it was good. Emily said it sounds good.
Emily asked if she’s tried the new “starlight Coke.” Emily said it claims to be “space flavored.” Ambria asked how it is. Emily said it tastes like vanilla. She said it’s not bad and not as strong as regular Coke. She said it comes in a 7.5 ounce can.
Ambria told her she got honey oolong bubble tea but forgot pearls. Ambria said it was still good. Emily asked what the oolong tastes like. Ambria can’t describe it. She said it starts weird but it was pretty good. Emily asked if she gets the mini pearls. Ambria gets the regular sized ones. Emily said she’s gotten the minis and there are a lot of them.
Ambria showed her Hello Kitty plushies. Emily asked about the chain around its neck. Ambria put it there so she can wear it. Emily asked fi she carries that with a purse. Ambria usually uses pockets.
Emily said Reda’s cheeseburger fell apart.
Emily asked Ambria to tell Reda what she likes to draw. Ambria mostly draws anime characters. She got a new sketchbook recently that she has been drawing in.
Emily is dipping [this] in ranch because it’s dry. It’s supposed to have vegetables on it, but it doesn’t. She said Reda’s burger looks “better constructed.”
Ambria is going to try to get her nails done with Galaxy on Saturday. Emily asked if she’s into that too. When Ambria showed her, she asked to come along. Reda asked to see them, and Ambria showed them off. Ambria showed the back side so they could see her real nails beneath the acrylics. She described how they apply them. Emily asked if it hurts. No. It’s weird at first but you get used to it. Emily asked if they filed her real nail. The only thing they did was smooth it out to apply the acrylic. Emily asked if the whole nail is glued down. Ambria described how they are attached. Reda asked if she did it herself. Ambria went to have it done. She found a place that is cheap. Emily said it’s probably cheaper than “a full something.” Ambria said this is expensive at other places. Emily asked if she had to call around. Ambria lucked upon it because it’s next to the bubble tea place. Ambria said it was $35 for all nails. Emily said that is a good deal.
Ambria asked what they did yesterday. Emily asked Reda to tell about it. They went to Wal-mart, Ross, and Hobby Lobby. Ambria asked if they got anything. Reda got a shirt and a pair of pants. Other than that, they just browsed.
Emily asked if she got to go to Cookout in Tennessee. Ambria doesn’t think so. Emily said she doesn’t think they have locations in Washington. Emily described her banana shake.
Ambria told her we went to the university book store. Emily asked if she got anything. She got a manga and showed it to them. Emily asked how long it takes her to read them. If she gets into it, two days. Ambria told Reda you read them backwards and they are Japanese graphic novels. Ambria gave an example from the first page of how you would read it. Emily explained that you read them from right to left. Emily said it “took (her) some getting used to.” Ambria said she’s mostly used to it, but it’s still hard sometimes with the word bubbles. Emily asked if she collects them. No, but she likes to read them. Reda asked where you get them. Ambria said most book stores have them, but she gets a lot from a Japanese book store. She also told about the book store down the street and the university book store. Emily asked if she gets some at Kinokuniya. Yes. Ambria said she didn’t know that was a chain. Emily said she didn’t either. Emily said hers didn’t have any Hello Kitties.
There was talking happening in the background of the call.
Emily came back and said that Korra is very matted. Hugh asked Emily to try to cut them out. Emily said she found Korra being sweet and tried to comb her. Emily said she grabbed her arm and bit her deep. She said it hurts really bad, and that Ambria should talk to her daughter. Emily said Hugh would need to have her sedated and shaved. Ambria said she’s glad Hugh is looking out for them. Emily said Ambria needs to talk some sense into her.
Reda asked if Ambria []. Ambria tried one time, but she said Korra wouldn’t let her do anything except pet her when Ambria was upset. Emily said Panda is very sweet. She then said they both are but Korra is “more skittish.” Panda does not have any mattes.
Emily asked her to tell Reda about math class. Ambria said it’s bad. Emily asked if it’s pre-calculus and asked Reda if she remembers it (presumably from Emily taking it in high school). Reda said she does. Ambria said they have a lot of tests, and it’s probably her least favorite class.
Emily asked her to talk about her favorite class. Ambria doesn’t know her favorite, but she told about her independent living class. She gave examples of what they learn there. Reda said not to charge unless “you’ve got the money to pay for it with in your hand.” Reda asked if she spends all her money at once. No. Ambria said that will get you into debt.
Emily asked what she learned about apartment shopping because Emily may need some of those tips. Ambria said they didn’t learn to do it. They just practiced looking and pointed out important things to look for. Ambria talked about factors like the location, pet policy, laundry accessibility… Emily asked about access like stairs and elevator and how to get there from the street. Ambria said you might have to visit to find that. Emily asked if everyone picked an apartment. They picked a couple and filled a form out about them. Emily asked what she picked. Ambria doesn’t remember. Emily guessed she picked one that allowed pets. Yes.
Emily asked what she learned about budgeting and grocery shopping. They practiced budgeting with grocery shopping. They assigned them random budgets and they had to plan meals around it. They’re going to learn about stretching ingredients in the baking class when they are back from break. Emily said that’s a good thing because “a lot of young people don’t know how to work with what they have.” Emily said that’s “real helpful.”
Ambria said she should go because she’s going to have a snack. Reda asked if she’s hanging up. Emily said yes, that she’s going to have a snack. Reda kissed her bye. Emily said she is traveling tomorrow, so she will talk on Saturday or if she wants to reschedule a different time, that’s fine too. Emily passed the phone to Reda.
Emily said again that she’s going to have a snack. They asked what she’s going to have. Ambria said she is going to have cereal. Reda did the “I love you” sign to her. Emily asked if Ambria remembers. She does.
