Emily is visiting Reda. Ambria emailed last night to try to plan another opportunity to talk to Reda. Emily agreed they could talk from 10:30am - 11am.
Ambria tried Emily, but Skype said she was offline. She immediately retried, and the call rang. Emily did not answer. Ambria retried again, but Emily did not answer. Ambria tried a third time, and Emily answered. Emily said she had gotten out of the shower.
Reda was on the call too. Their video was not smooth. Seemed like their connection wasn’t great. Emily said she’d been “holding your daughter” referring to one of Ambria’s cats.
Reda asked what Ambria is eating. Peanut butter filled pretzels. Emily told Reda that’s one of her favorite snacks. Ambria showed one to the camera. Reda was mumbling and couldn’t be understood.
Ambria asked if they wanted to see her self-portrait. Emily said it looked like her. Reda agreed. Emily asked if it’s pencil or what she used. Ambria said it was pencil.
Emily asked if it was cold. Yes.
Emily asked if Benny sent her a picture. Yes.
Emily and Reda said some things I couldn’t understand. Reda asked Ambria if she pulls her hair back. Sometimes. They talked about haircuts.
Reda is talking at volumes that don’t get picked up on the call. Ambria suggested the wifi in the living room at their house isn’t good. Ambria suggested going to the hall. They made some adjustments, and Reda asked if she could hear. Ambria said it was better.
Reda asked about sending cards to someone. Ambria said she had sent them one.
Emily asked Ambria to tell Reda about the paper she had to write. Ambria told about having to write 4 paragraphs about their identity in French. They picked two aspects that were the most important to them. Ambria picked her family and the regions that she’s lived in. Emily asked if she talked about Tennessee and Washington. Ambria said she picked the South and the Northwest. Emily asked if she got a grade on it. Not yet.
Emily asked what she has planned for the day. She’s going to finish her homework and play Minecraft with some friends. Reda asked if she has friends. Yes. Emily said they like all the same things Ambria likes. Emily called out skateboarding in particular. Reda said she had a movie of Ambria skateboarding. Reda asked if she gets fast going down the hill. Yes, but she gets scared. Emily asked if she has an emergency brake installed. No, she just jumps off. Emily said she did that one time. Reda talked about roller skating. Emily asked if she was good at it. I couldn’t understand what Reda said in response to that.
Reda asked if Ambria talks to Annie. No, but she has their address. Emily asked if she hears from Hannah. They send each other Christmas cards.
Reda mumbled some things.
Emily showed Korra and Panda. Ambria said hi to Panda.
Reda came back on the call, and Ambria told her she saw the cats. Reda said some things Ambria couldn’t understand. Not clear if that’s because of her speech of because of the connection. Ambria was just sitting, watching and listening to what was being said. Ambria told them it said there’s a bad connection. Ambria asked if she is frozen. No. Emily asked if they are. Not frozen, but it’s “not smooth.” Ambria told her it doesn’t say there’s a bad connection anymore.
Ambria asked if it’s warm or cold there today. Emily said it’s in the 50s. Reda said it’s cold inside. Emily asked what it’s like here. Ambria said it’s about 40. Reda asked if there was snow. Ambria said we don’t get snow until February. Emily asked if we didn’t get much even then. Ambria said we don’t. Reda asked if she knows the state song. Ambria doesn’t know. Reda improvised one. Ambria said she hadn’t heard that one. Reda asked about the state flower. Ambria said the state tree is the evergreen. Emily asked about the state animal and said it’s the raccoon in Tennessee. They discussed the state flower and couldn’t agree.
Reda asked if Nana and Poppy came lately. Ambria said they came over the summer. Reda asked if they’re coming for Christmas. Ambria doesn’t think so.
They started talking about colors. I’m not sure of the context. Reda asked what she’s wearing and asked if it was black. Yes, it’s a hoodie. Emily asked what’s on it. Ambria said it’s for Easy Street Records. Reda asked what kind of music she listens to now. Ambria said she’s listening to Taylor Swift but mostly listens to rap. Reda asked if Ambria knows the password to her phone. Ambria guessed 1028. Emily asked what kind of rap she listens to. Ambria doesn’t know how to describe it.
They reminisced a story about Ambria getting new earrings and having one of them broken by Reda. Ambria said she didn’t need to wear those any more. Reda said she didn’t mean to break it. Reda said if she found them, she would send it to her.
Emily asked if she remembers the story about the umbrella. Reda talked about looking for something.
Reda said she is pretty today and said something about getting “her kisses.” She said she loves her. Ambria said she loves her too. Then she and Emily exchanged the same sentiment.
Ambria asked what they are doing today. Emily started to say something but trailed off.
Ambria asked if they’ve seen Jimmy lately. Reda said he’d also had a stroke. Ambria asked if he still lives at the end of the road. Yes. Ambria said she sent him a Christmas card too. Reda said to call him sometime. Ambria doesn’t have his phone number.
Emily asked if she still has some kind of powder stuff she sent her last year. Ambria said a little was left. Reda said she would get some and try it. It’s the chai tea mix. Ambria said it’s spicy and hard to explain. Ambria said Reda might like it.
Reda asked if Ambria thinks the two of them look alike. Ambria doesn’t know.
Ambria said she has winter break on the 17th. Reda asked if that’s December. Yes. Reda asked how she likes school “out there.” Ambria didn’t get to answer. Reda said she hopes she learns a lot. Ambria does. Emily asked if she takes any advanced courses. Ambria takes a senior-level math course. Reda started asking how many feet are in a yard and questions like that. Ambria gave the answers. She gave some simple multiplication problems.
Emily asked her to tell Reda how tall she is because Emily isn’t sure. Ambria said 5’1”. Emily asked what size shoe she wears. 5. Reda asked if there’s anything she wants for Christmas. Ambria said she has stuff on her Amazon wish list. Reda said she didn’t have it. Ambria said she sent it to her mom yesterday.
Ambria said she wanted to go to do her laundry. Reda asked if she’s keeping her room clean. She has been the last couple of weeks. Reda asked how many pairs of shoes she has. 2. Reda asked if she keeps them off the floor. Ambria told her we have a thing in the living room where we keep them. She said it’s a wardrobe. Reda said she keeps hers in the closet. She said she would fall over them if they were out.
Emily asked if she said she needed to go do her laundry. Yes. Emily told Reda. Reda kept asking questions about washing dishes and laundry.
Ambria said she will try to send a letter soon. Reda said she can’t write anymore. Ambria said that’s OK. Emily told Reda what she has said. Emily told Reda to tell her bye so she could go do her laundry. Reda said she could send her a letter on her computer, but she can’t type very well either. Reda asked her favorite color. Red. They said something about gloves. Ambria said she puts her hands in her pockets. Reda said she wears gloves and no one else wears them.
Emily asked Reda to tell her bye. Reda asked if there’s anything she wanted to see there and asked about the cats. Emily said she’d showed her the cats. Reda said she loved her even though she used to fuss at her.
Emily said they would talk to her later on. Ambria waved. Emily said “Love you.” They both said bye.
