Ambria called. Skype rang for a long time, but Emily did not answer. She retried again immediately. Emily answered.

Emily asked how she’s doing. Fine. She asked what snack Ambria is having. Peanut-butter filled pretzels. Emily asked how school went, then commented on Ambria’s chains. Ambria told her she’s been working on the background for her self-portrait in art. Emily started talking about why she looks red on the video. She thinks it’s the lighting in her room. Emily asked if she’s almost done with the background. It’s not working out the way Ambria had hoped. She told her how she messed up the red and black checkerboard she was trying to do. Emily said, “Maybe you can work it out somehow.”

Ambria’s voice is echoing back through the phone loudly.

Emily showed one of the cats on the call. She said this cat had a birthday recently. She said this cat sheds a lot.

Ambria told her she’s going to order some Christmas cards tonight. Emily asked what she’s trying to get. Ambria said, “cheap.”

Emily asked what she’s doing in language arts (but she couldn’t remember the name of it). They finished Great Gatsby last week and watched the movie this week. Emily asked if they have to do a lot of papers about what they read. They do some, but they don’t think the have to on this one.

Emily asked about science. They’re studying force. Emily asked if they do experiments. They are watching the teacher do some. Emily asked if she has taken or will take chemistry. She took it in 9th grade and is taking part B next semester.

Emily asked about French. This week, they’re learning the history of women’s rights in France. Emily said it was “interesting” and asked what is most intriguing about it. Ambria’s still figuring it out. Emily asked if she’s talked to pen pals. She sent an email but hasn’t gotten a reply. Emily asked how she will finish her project if she doesn’t get a reply. Ambria might do a different project instead.

Emily said it’s been warm but got to 39 earlier in the week. She said it’s in the 50s and 40s overnight. She said she has new birds visiting her bird feeder. She told the types and described them. She said the cat likes to watch them. Ambria said it was funny.

Emily said she is finding things that make the cat gag. She has a comb and Slinky so far. She’s heard tin foil does. She said she doesn’t set out to find items that make that happen.

Ambria told her to tell Reda hi and she loves her. Emily said she will and that Reda is doing OK. She said she’s not doing therapy but she might have more if she gets weaker.

Ambria said she should go. Emily said she will talk to her Saturday. Emily asked if she has tests coming up. Next week, and she’s retaking quizzes tomorrow. Emily said she’s, “sure you’ll do good on those.”
