Ambria tried calling Emily. Skype said Emily was not online.
Ambria tried again immediately. This time Skype rang through to Emily.
Emily asked how she is. Ambria said she is good.
Emily said she’s drinking Mexican hot chocolate. She asked if Ambria has had it. No. Emily said she might like it. It has cinnamon and pepper. Ambria told her she had a Mexican chocolate cake. Emily said it’s probably the same thing.
Emily asked how her tests were Thursday and Friday. She got one wrong on listening and got them all on the reading test. She thinks she did well on the writing test. Emily asked if they were words that sound similar. Ambria isn’t sure. You can’t see what you missed immediately. They do speaking on Monday. Emily asked what they have to say. They’ll have a list of questions to go through. Emily asked her to say, “Hi, my name is Ambria. I live in Seattle.” Ambria spoke that in French. Emily said, “OK, I didn’t know that.” Emily asked if she wants to pursue it. Ambria doesn’t know, but she wants to keep taking it even though they only need two years. Emily asked if she wants to do another two years. Yes. Emily said she might be fluent. Their teacher told them that would be the case. Emily is glad she enjoys it.
Emily asked about her math test Friday. She was confused about a couple, but she thinks she figured them out. Emily asked if they show their work or show a calculator. Ambria said the test problems are usually simpler because the teacher wants to be sure they know how to do it. She has to show her work.
Ambria told her they’re working on history and language arts projects. Emily asked about them. History: they make a video about something in India before, during, and after the British occupation. Emily asked what topics she’s picking. Language. She was going to do Hinduism, but she thinks language will work better. Emily asked if she’s in a group and each person researches something. The teacher recommends they have a partner. Most people don’t, but Ambria does. Emily asked how they discuss. The teacher makes meetings for them to use to discuss together. Emily asked if they get in a group to divide responsibilities for who will talk about what in the video. Ambria told her they don’t talk in the video. They are showing a slideshow.
A pet came in to get Emily’s attention. She told about what the pet does. Emily asked if she’s getting big. Ambria agreed. She said you could imagine what she’s going to look like.
Emily said the dog was sick this week.
Ambria asked if she’s heard of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. No. Ambria said it’s kinda new, but she just discovered it yesterday. She told her about it and which games it contains. Emily asked if it’s new. Yes. Emily asked if she’s going to get that one. Ambria said she wants it. Emily asked if she wanted her to get it for her. Yes. Emily said she will look them up. She doesn’t recognize them. Emily asked if she can send her a link. Yes. Emily said she will look into them. She said it sounds interesting. Emily asked how many Switch games she has. A lot. She isn’t sure how many. Emily asked which are her favorites. Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Picross, Stardew Valley…
Emily said she still hasn’t tried Picross again. She said she was overwhelmed.
Ambria said she wants to go. Emily asked if she has plans for the weekend. No, just staying home. Emily asked if she is off for the semester switch. She’s off that Thursday. Emily said she will talk Wednesday. They ended the call at January 23, 2021 9:10 AM.
