Ambria called Emily. The call rang for over a minute and went unanswered. Skype said Emily was unavailable. Ambria tried again at October 10, 2020 8:59 AM and Emily answered after a few seconds.
She asked what kind of cereal Ambria is having. Chocolate Cheerios. Emily asked if she likes them. Yes.
Emily asked how school has been this week. Ambria said it’s good. Emily said she had two pieces of avocado toast. Emily asked if she likes it. Not really. Emily makes her own. She uses sourdough with cheese on it. She uses everything but the bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s. She puts red pepper flakes on it. Ambria said, “Mmm hmm.”
Someone coughed in the background.
Ambria told her they had three quizzes in French on Thursday. Emily said that’s a lot of studying. Ambria said they weren’t hard and two were over the same things. Emily asked if they have to write in French. Not yet. Emily asked if she asks the questions in French and they answer in English. Ambria told her they do everything online during class. In the geography quiz, it gave a picture and pointed to a place on the map asking what it was. Emily asked if they type everything. Ambria said they take pictures of some assignments. Ambria told her about the other quizzes. Emily asked if they have to read French and summarize it. They don’t have to write it, but they have to answer questions about what they read.
Emily asked what they’re studying in Geogr… “I forget.” Ambria suggested algebra 2. Emily went with that. Quadratics. They are on the first unit. Emily asked how it’s going. “Good.” Emily asked if they’re having a virtual “spirit week.” Ambria said the first one is usually pretty soon. She doesn’t know what it will be like. Emily asked what they do for homecoming. Probably nothing since they can’t have a game or a dance. Emily asked if they’re playing sports. No.
Emily asked about US history. Ambria corrected world history. Emily said she was doing the aztecs last time. They’re at the end of that unit studying the columbia exchange.
Emily asked if science is biology 1. Ambria said yes, but there’s only one. Emily said she liked biology. She had trouble in chemistry. It required more studying and she “never made all the connections.” Ambria liked physics. Emily took it in 12th grade and struggled. Ambria said she just learned basics in 9th grade. They did half a semester.
In woodworking, they’ve been talking about ideas and going over “safety stuff.” Emily asked what that was and asked if they have to wear goggles. Yes, and the teacher showed them the equipment he has in his shop. Emily asked if he does everything from his house. Emily said he probably couldn’t go to the school if he wanted. Ambria thinks he could because another teacher is teaching from his classroom but only for one day.
Ambria said she thought of something she wants for her birthday and asked for film for her camera. Emily asked how many pictures she took and said she guessed it was long gone. Ambria said she’s right.
Ambria said she wants to go. They ended the call at October 10, 2020 9:09 AM.
