Emily asked what Ambria is doing today. She’s about to take the trash. Emily said she’s trying a new bar today. It’s a Sweet Earth fig and tart cherry wrap. She said it’s like a pop tart. She said it was on clearance.
Emily asked about school. Ambria said they don’t go to school Monday, but all next week is their “strong start” which means they go to all classes for a while and their advisory for a half hour with time at the end to work on their own. Emily asked if that’s for their schoolwork. Yes. Ambria said her first class was French 2. Then she had biology, woodworking, history, language arts, and math. Emily said she’ll have yoga next semester.
Emily asked how it went. She wants to know her daily schedule. She asked if Ambria ate breakfast. Yes, then she had to log into Schoology and find the Teams link for her first class. She was in there at 9am. Ms. Shu (French teacher) did attendance. Emily asked if she had to turn the camera on. Ms. Shu didn’t make people unless she didn’t know them. Those people had to wave at her. Emily asked if Ambria turned hers on. She thinks it was on at the beginning.
Then, she did a presentation and they did a Kahoot (2 questions of it). They had a 10 minute break before biology. Ambria doesn’t think he Biology teacher took attendance. She told them to leave the camera off unless they needed to turn them on for a specific reason. Emily guessed that was so people don’t get distracted or maybe she just doesn’t want to see everyone. Ambria doesn’t remember what they talked about. Emily said it was hopefully about biology.
After a 10 minute break, they had woodworking. They didn’t have to have cameras on. Emily asked if everyone has to buy a table saw. Ambria told her he said it’s more about building than just working with wood. He said he might send some little kits for them. He’s going to take them on field trips to hardware stores and lumbar yards. Emily said she’s giving him a hard time, but it must be hard for him. She said she retracts her hard time.
Ambria said they had another 10 minute break before history. The history teacher had worked at her middle school teaching 7th grade when she was in 8th. His class was next to her math class. She doesn’t remember if he did attendance or not. He talked a bout history
After another 10 minute break, they started language arts. The teacher took attendance and talked about language arts. He said they will read novels, articles, and poems.
Another 10 minute break before algebra 2. They took attendance. She talked about math. Emily asked if it’s difficult. Ambria doesn’t know because they haven’t done anything. They just have 20 minutes each for the first few days before they start a normal schedule next Monday the 14th. Emily asked how long a normal class is. 55 minutes but they’re going to be over an hour during remote learning.
Emily said she has a question but then forgot it. She said it was about language arts. She asked if that’s her last class. No, math. She asked if she needs a specific calculator. The teacher hasn’t told them. They haven’t given a supplies list.
Emily said she hopes Ambria enjoys woodworking. Ambria said there’s also woodworking 2. Emily asked if that’s next semester. No, but she can take it another time. She’s already picked yoga for next semester.
Emily asked if she’s excited. Ambria is excited to see what it’s like. Emily said it’s hard to not be able to go see friends and go to school.
Emily asked if McKenzie has started. Yes. Emily asked where she lives. Orting. Emily asked where she used to live. Renton. Emily asked if she’s going online. Yes. Emily asked if she had the option to go in-person. No. Emily asked if remote is state-wide. Ambria doesn’t know.
Ambria asked her to tell Reda hi and she loves her. Emily said they have another COVID positive case. This person doesn’t have contact with anyone. Emily said she doesn’t know “how it’s going to go.” They check her vitals several times per day and they’re fine. Emily said that’s all she knows.
Ambria said she wants to go. They ended the call at September 5, 2020 9:11 AM.
