Ambria called Emily. Skype said she was unavailable. She tried again at August 29, 2020 8:59 AM. Emily answered.
Emily asked about breakfast. Ambria said she hasn’t had it yet. Emily showed her a “harmless ham” from Sweet Earth. She said she’s afraid to try it even though it looks good. She said it was on clearance.
Emily asked if she had gone to Starbucks. Ambria said she will probably go this week.
Emily said the cat thinks it’s real ham.
Emily asked if she starts school this coming Friday. Yes. Ambria told her she’s supposed to get her schedule on Wednesday. Emily said in a normal year they would go to school and do their schedule. Yes.
Emily said her hair is getting long. She asked if she braided it. No.
Ambria told her about the strong start: 2 hours of community building and support stuff at the beginning of the year. Emily said she doesn’t know what that is but it sounds helpful. For middle and high school, they posted a sample schedule. Ambria told her she thinks they will alternate days with classes. She gave her some more schedule details. Emily said an hour for lunch is long and starting at 9am is “abnormal.” Emily asked when they get out of school. She said it was an “interesting schedule.” She said it “doesn’t sound too bad.” She said she hated that the yoga and woodworking might not work out.
Ambria said McKenzie told her about her school. Emily asked if that’s in Renton. No, it’s in Orting. She said her school normally gets out at 2:15 but they start at 7:30. They get out at 12:30 on Friday. Emily was surprised about that. Ambria said she likes hers better because hers starts at 8:55 and gets out at “three something.” Emily said it’s interesting having the later start so you don’t have to get up as early. She also likes that she doesn’t have to walk or ride the bus and can wear whatever she wants. Emily said it “sounds like it’s going to work out good for (her).”
Emily tried to name all the classes. Ambria helped her out with some of them. Emily said she liked biology. Ambria asked if she did experiments. Emily said hers were mostly in chemistry. They did a couple but nothing fun. Emily asked if she has done a dissection. No. Emily did one in 7th grade but didn’t really participate. She just watched. Emily asked if she had to have a music elective. Ambria said if you have a PE credit and a health credit, you can pick whatever other electives you want. Emily asked if that’s for your whole high school career or per year. Ambria said it’s for the whole career. Emily asked if she will take her PE next time. Yoga was supposed to be her PE credit.
Emily noted it’s weird that she’s a 10th grader. She asked if Ambria’s excited. Ambria is excited to see what it’s like. Emily thinks it will be good since she doesn’t need a ton of help from teachers anyway.
Ambria asked her to tell Reda hi and she loves her if she gets to talk to her. Emily said OK and she will talk on Wednesday. They ended the call at August 29, 2020 9:09 AM.
