Ambria called Emily. Emily asked if she has on her scarf. Ambria said she doesn’t. Emily said she looks cozy. Ambria said yes. Emily asked if today is her scrimmage. Ambria told her it’s a bout. Emily asked if the bout actually counts. Ambria said yes. Emily asked how many teams she will play. Ambria said just one. Emily asked their name. Ambria said she doesn’t know. Emily said she will find out when she gets there. Ambria said they are from Marysville. Emily asked how long it is. Ambria said 2 hours. Emily asked if it’s hard to go that long. Ambria said her practices are that long. Emily said she would have lots of stamina. Emily asked about school. Ambria told her about her language arts party on Friday. Emily asked if it’s cold. Ambria said it’s kinda cold. Emily said it’s been in the 40s the last few days and there may be some snow coming up. Emily said she got Ambria’s Christmas card yesterday. She asked if Ambria used her best penmanship. Ambria said she tried. She asked if Emily got the one for Reda. Emily said yes and she will take it to her. Emily said she remembered having to write in cursive in pen for some things in school and she got really worked up about it. It made her very nervous. Ambria told her she had spelling tests in 3rd grade but they weren’t in pen. Emily said things were tough in her day. Then she said she rode the bus. Ambria asked if they closed school. Emily said sometimes they did. Emily told her about the blizzard in ‘93. Emily asked if it ever really snows here. Ambria said it does a little. Emily said it never lays on the ground and swirls in the air. Ambria agreed. Ambria said it snowed big once last year. Emily then noticed Ambria was wearing her hoodie. Emily asked if she has any of the scarves she made. Ambria said she has one. Emily said she wore hers just last week. Ambria asked about Reda. Emily said she’s doing effortful swallows to tell her brain to do a very good swallow. She’s doing passive exercise. Since the left arm doesn’t do anything, her shoulder is separated. Even though she’s not actively moving the left arm, she can move it with the other arm or some other way to get the brain to form new pathways and restart the arm. Even though her brain is injured, it can relearn the old functions using new pathways. She has a window for being able to do that before she won’t ever be able to relearn. Emily thinks she has trouble reading. She can’t write. They are working on everything but not too concerned about writing. Emily asked if Ambria wanted to tell her anything. Ambria said to tell her hi. Emily said she would give her the card too. Ambria said she wanted to go. Emily wished her luck in the bout and asked if she will jam. Ambria said she will. Emily kept the conversation going for another minute or so bullshitting about roller derby. They finally ended the call at 9:09 AM.
