Ambria called Emily. Emily asked what she’s doing. Ambria said she’s making breakfast. Emily asked what. Ambria said banana pancakes. Emily asked if that’s one of her favorites. Ambria said maybe. Emily asked if they’re vegan. Ambria said they have egg whites. Emily said that works. Emily asked how school was. Ambria said she got moved into art class. Emily asked how that was. Ambria said it’s good. They just started their first project to decorate their folder. Emily asked what kind of decoration. Ambria said a collage and her name. Emily asked about the collage. Ambria said it’s of pictures she cut from a magazine. Ambria showed her the stylized name she made for the notebook. Emily said that was neat and asked if it was just paper she cut out. Ambria nodded. Ambria asked about Reda. Emily said Reda passed her swallow test. They told Emily to go really slow easing her into eating again. She can’t eat meat and potatoes. They showed Emily an x-ray that showed her throat from the side with Barium contrast. Her epiglottis works the way it was supposed to with liquid. They want her to eat really small bites of stuff. Emily gave her 5 small spoons of yogurt to start. Emily is really pleased because she thought Reda would fail it. Ambria told Emily about her first science lab mixing colors to make a rainbow. Emily said, “Oh, wow. That’s real fun.” Emily said she dissected a frog in 7th grade and she didn’t like it. She doesn’t remember what she did in 8th grade. Ambria told her about picture day. Emily asked what she’s going to wear. Ambria said she hasn’t decided. Emily asked about her hair. Ambria said she’ll just leave it down. Emily asked what colors she’s wearing. Ambria said she’ll probably wear her dark green shirt. Emily asked if Ambria is in any clubs. Ambria said, “clubs?” She said not at school but she’s in roller derby. Ambria told her mom that Lauren got into Spanish 1. Emily said she could take Lauren to the Mexican restaurant with her and she could speak the language. Ambria told her they have a homework club. She said she doesn’t think they’ve started yet this year because they haven’t sent home a paper. Emily asked how math is. Ambria told her they have a test next Monday. Emily asked how many chapters it’s over. Ambria said it’s over unit 1: properties. Emily asked if she has a good grasp on that. Ambria said yes. Emily asked if they check their homework in class. Ambria said they check each others’ work in class and they are graded on whether they attempt it. Emily said, “That’s good.” Ambria said that’s how it worked last year. Emily asked if the tests are graded for correctness. Ambria said yes. Emily said at least you have an opportunity to understand before you start getting graded. Ambria said she wants to go.
