Ambria called Emily. They had a bit of trouble at the beginning of the call. They each said hello. Then, Emily said nothing for a long time. Ambria told Emily she’s eating blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Emily said that sounded good. Emily asked if Ambria has made any dinners or desserts. Ambria said she hasn’t recently. Emily asked about Ambria’s Camp Manitowa tie dye shirt. Ambria told her how she made it. Emily said she made one but it didn’t turn out as bright as Ambria’s. They talked more about tie dye. Ambria said she has two shirts and some other things she’s made. Emily said that’s neat. Emily talked about Ambria having her hair in a bun. Emily asked about school. Ambria said it was good. They had a math test Thursday and Friday. Emily asked if it was 7th grade math. Ambria said it was 8th grade math. Emily asked if Ambria used the eraser and how she liked it. Ambria said she did and it was. Emily asked about the history test. Ambria said she didn’t know. Ambria said they had career day on Friday. Emily asked what that was like. Ambria said they did Wednesday schedule and had people come into the class and talk about their jobs: a construction worker, an emergency room person, and a UPS pilot. Emily asked if Ambria was interested in those. Ambria said no. Emily said there are thousands of other jobs out there. Ambria said she should find out soon if she becomes a web leader. Emily asked what that is. Ambria said it’s the thing she interviewed for. She would be helping sixth graders get oriented with their new school. Emily said that sounds like a fun thing to do. Emily said she hopes Ambria gets to be part of that and asked what the interview was like. Ambria said they asked why she wanted to be one, who her role model was, her favorite pizza topping, and whether she would lose the ability to be afraid or the ability to feel pain. Emily asked what her answers were. She said it was “very complex.” Ambria said she would lose the ability to be afraid because she could still have experiences but still experience the consequences. Pineapple is her favorite topping. She couldn’t remember the other question. Emily said it seems stressful. Ambria said yeah, but they told her to just relax and have fun. Emily asked if other friends did this. Ambria said they did. Emily asked about the derby prom. Ambria said it’s on the 22nd which is the last day of school. Emily asked what she’s doing for the summer. She’s planning to meet up with some of her friends at the pool and the skate park. Emily asked if she’s going to do “any skate park activities.” Ambria said she’ll practice for derby. Emily asked if there’s a pool close. Ambria said there are a couple. Emily said maybe she could do that. Ambria say yes, maybe. Emily asked if she’s thought about a swimming team. Ambria said she doesn’t want to do that. Emily said she guesses roller derby is her main thing and she enjoys it, so that’s OK. Emily asked if Ambria has to try out. Ambria said she doesn’t. Ambria said she wanted to go. They ended the call at 9:09 AM.
