We tried to work out an earlier time for Ambria to call since my parents are in from Knoxville to see her. This way, she wouldn’t have to come home from what she was doing. (It didn’t end up mattering because my dad woke up sick and we couldn’t go anywhere anyway.) Ambria called Emily at her normal time. Emily asked what Ambria has been doing, and she answered not much. Emily asked what that meant, and Ambria said she hadn’t gone anywhere. Emily said that was OK. Emily asked about roller derby. Ambria said it was fun but lots of kids were missing. Emily asked if she would have practice on Friday. Ambria said she will not. Ambria asked about Emily’s pets. Emily asked what Ambria has been having for dinner. Ambria thought for a few seconds. She told her mom she’d had a veggie burger for lunch yesterday. Emily said she doesn’t like black bean burgers because they are too dry. Ambria asked if Emily has heard of Beyond burgers. Emily said they were OK. Ambria said she likes them. Emily said she might try them again. She said the place she went to put vegan cheese on them and she likes it. They started discussing the pronunciation of “seitan.” Ambria told her mom she tried a crab cake for dinner yesterday and liked it. Her mom asked if they were fresh. Ambria said yes. She said we’d gone to the Seattle Fish Company. Emily asked if that was downtown. Ambria said no but that we had spent a lot of time downtown yesterday. Emily asked how long it takes to get to downtown. Ambria said 20-30 minutes, sometimes less. Emily asked how long it takes to get to roller derby. Ambria said we usually get a ride to roller derby and it takes about 45 minutes. Ambria said it’s in Shoreline outside of Seattle. Emily asked if there’s a lot of traffic there. Ambria said sometimes. Emily asked if Ambria got to talk to Reda today. Ambria said she didn’t. Emily asked what Ambria is having for dinner tonight. Ambria said we are going to West 5 and she’s getting hummus. Emily said she thinks Ambria has talked about West 5 today. Emily noticed Ambria has her hair down. She asked if Ambria washed it recently. Ambria said she washed it yesterday. Emily asked if she has anything special planned for the rest of the week. Ambria said she doesn’t know. Emily said she guesses Ambria won’t volunteer at the food bank today. Ambria said she is right. Emily asked about books Ambria is reading. Ambria said she’s reading Once Was a Time. Emily asked about the genre. Ambria said it’s fantasy. Emily asked if that’s her favorite genre. Ambria said she tries to read all the genres but likes realistic fiction best. Emily said she found her dog. Ambria said Panda’s birthday is coming up. They talked about how old Panda is. Emily told how old her Panda is. They talked about Korra’s age. Ambria talked about putting clothes on Korra. Ambria said she wanted to go.
